Syclo's Hosts Attendees from Across Industries and Around the Globe to Share Best Practices in Mobile Computing at Annual Mobile Conference

Syclo Takes Customer Care Online with Mobile Developer Zone and More

Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Syclo Mobile Conference 2006 – June 14, 2006 – Mobile software developer Syclo this week welcomed attendees to the company's annual mobile conference to discuss the latest trends in mobile computing, new product innovations and to share best practices and user success stories.

This year's conference theme, "Shaping the Future with Mobile" emphasized collaboration and the ability of Syclo's 600-strong customer base to combine its collective expertise to impact the overall potential for success and new business opportunities afforded by mobile technology.  The conference began with multiple technical break-outs and one-on-one "Meet the Experts" sessions where customers brought their specific deployment questions and met with members of Syclo's professional services team to discuss specific solutions for their businesses.

The conference keynote was delivered by Syclo's founder and CEO Richard Padula, who spoke about building a community of innovators.  Following the example of numerous Internet technologies that have created the "Network Effect," Syclo aims to leverage the Internet to foster open communication and deliver greater value and information sharing among its customers.

Padula announced the creation of a new Customer Resource Center, an online community that includes an interactive project management tool, Web-based customer support, a searchable "wiki" knowledgebase (Syclopedia) and Mobile Developer Zone.  The Mobile Developer Zone will allow Syclo developers and customers to export and upload sample code and applications as well as peripherals active-x controls that will allow customers to see first-hand how particular features can be easily implemented.

Featured user presentations were made by leading institutions such as facilities management company EMCOR, Tube Lines, the service firm upgrading a major portion of the London Underground, and Peacock Engineering, a systems integrator with an international client base.  A recurring theme in each of their presentations was the message that mobile is more than just technology and applications.  The results of mobile technology are inherently shaping the ways that companies operate on a day-to-day basis.

"Mobile creates an inherent change in business processes and the overall corporate culture which creates a positive impact that can be measured in both qualitative and quantitative gains," Padula said.  "In addition to end users benefiting from real-time data updates and communication at the point of performance, mobile computing drives the performance of IT systems that are essential to improving operations and lowering costs.  Companies that want to maintain their competitive advantage can no longer ignore the fact that mobile computing offers a key means for driving greater business efficiency."

The conference was rounded off with technical how-to sessions that focused on some of Syclo's major product features, including the recently released Import/Export/Compare function of the Agentry platform. This feature will allow companies to duplicate functionality across multiple applications by simply exporting specific code from one application and uploading it into another.  This will also speed upgrades where specific configurations for mobile need to be ported to a new version.

A session on Mobile Peripherals filled seats where participants came to hear about the latest devices and accompanying peripherals, including GPS (global positioning systems), GIS (digital maps and geographic data), RFID, digital cameras, mobile printers and more.

In addition to learning about how to deliver more dynamic and geographic-specific information to their mobile teams, attendees were also given an in-depth look at SMART Schedule, an automated product for planners and schedulers that allocates service and work orders according to parameters set by administrators, such as technician skill set, work priority, travel distance, current status of work-in-progress and more.  The SMART Schedule presentation included a live demonstration illustrating how real-time updates from workers in the field using their mobile devices would prompt updates to SMART Schedule, giving planners unmatched visibility into work being performed.  Optimized scheduling is considered the key to reducing maintenance costs, because activities performed in a reactive, unplanned mode cost, on average, from 25% to 50% more than planned activities.
