Mobile Solutions Provider Syclo Sponsors Aberdeen Report
on Best Practices in Field Service

Hoffman Estates, Ill., June 29, 2006 – Syclo, a leading developer of mobile software solutions, today announced the release of an AberdeenGroup report titled "Best Practices in Field Service."  The report, co-sponsored by Syclo, examined the use of mobile computing by field forces to streamline workflow, boost productivity, improve customer retention, and increase profitability and service revenues.

"The challenge of providing field service personnel with timely access to critical order, customer, asset, and inventory data continues to plague many service organizations due to the inefficiencies engendered by loose connections between field technicians and critical back-office operations," wrote co-authors Mark Vigoroso, Chief Research Officer & SVP, Service Chain Management and Amit Jain, Research Director, Service Chain Management.  "Nearly two-thirds of companies Aberdeen recently surveyed said their technicians require real-time access to mission-critical data, but less than one-third said they were currently capable of meeting this requirement."

The report examines best practices in implementing mobile computing and instructs companies that want to pursue mobile to focus on five main business categories of concern: business processes, organizational structure, knowledge management, technology and performance measurement.

Syclo customer and leading provider of facilities management services, EMCOR, was among the several companies highlighted in the report.  For more than 700 technicians, EMCOR replaced cell phones previously used for verbal dispatch and paper-based reporting with mobile devices that allow for real-time retrieval and updating of service orders and requests.  With mobile computing, EMCOR was able to streamline workflow from dispatchers to field technicians,  speed response times, and also improve reporting and billing so that over-the-shoulder work requests were captured by each technician to better account for time spent at a work site, which contributed greatly to meeting service level agreements.

"The Aberdeen report recognizes a key challenge that many companies face, which is finding a way to integrate new technology with specific business process improvements that increase overall value for the end user as well as the organization," said Richard Padula, Syclo's president and CEO. "There is more to ‘going mobile' than just deploying handhelds to your workers.  Companies that have demonstrated best practices prove that mobile projects will only succeed if they are closely aligned with business goals and complement, rather than disrupt, the natural workflow of users."
