Syclo SMART Task Tracker Mobile Solution Now Available
Leading mobile solutions provider announces software product release
Hoffman Estates, IL – December 1, 2006 – Syclo, a global leader in mobile software solutions, today announced the general availability of at its field tested SMART Task Tracker. This application joins Syclo's SMART product line and was developed by collaborating with a long-time customer in the oil and gas industry to meet the company’s needs for rapidly retooling and refitting its refineries during shutdowns, turnarounds and outages (STOs).
SMART Task Tracker was developed to help manage major overhauls, or turnarounds, of sites — whether they are refineries, offshore platforms or petrochemical complexes. These overhauls are big events involving up to 200,000 tasks. Contractors and technicians swarm about the facility as critical pieces of equipment are shut down, serviced and restarted. Because downtime costs money, keeping the turnaround time as short as possible is significant. The coordination of the whole turnaround on paper requires masses of signatures on innumerable pieces of paper and is prone to human error. Syclo and this worldwide energy company worked together closely to automate the process within an electronic, paper-free application: Task Tracker.
Task Tracker is a product developed for the intense job-tracking required to speed the completion and increase the accuracy of mission-critical projects by eliminating excess foot traffic and delays caused by paper-driven sign-offs. Task Tracker allows users to effectively manage workflow so their organizations can execute top priority projects on schedule.
The system, which provides lists of prioritized tasks for workers armed with hand-held computers, works on intrinsically safe hand-held devices that are linked by a wireless network. The customer has recorded a marked change in safety and efficiency since deploying Task Tracker. Syclo has worked with this customer on a number of mobile initiatives for asset management, including the automation of maintenance work orders and using RFID for improved asset tracking.
Task Tracker integrates data into multiple applications, including project management software and enterprise asset management (EAM) systems. For better management oversight, a desktop interface provides a full audit trail of each task, including status changes and signoffs, and delivers extensive reporting capability. The product, built on Syclo’s Agentry™ mobile development platform, is now available for other companies seeking to reduce the time and data collection needed to track vast amounts of concentrated activities.
